Get the SHA-256 hash of any file. Your browser does the math. The file is never uploaded, never sent, never stored.
A hash is a short fingerprint of a file. Same file, same hash, every time. Change one pixel or one comma and the hash comes out completely different. Nobody can rebuild the file from its hash.
On its own, a hash shows you are looking at the same file as before. It does not show when the file existed, because anyone can compute a hash today for a file made yesterday or last year.
A date comes from recording the hash somewhere that nobody can quietly edit later. That is what an IPWeb3 record does: it stores the fingerprint with a date on a public blockchain. The record is evidence that your exact file existed by that date. It is not a copyright registration, and it does not say who made the work.
No. The hash is computed on your device. Only if you press the check button, the 64 character hash (not the file) is sent to look for a match. Turn off your internet before you pick a file if you want to see it work offline.
Register a file with IPWeb3 and you get a certificate and a public page anyone can check.
